Hazardous Area Classification

Hazardous Area Classification

Systematic classification of zones where combustible dust or flammable atmospheres may exist, compliant with IEC 60079-10-2 and SS 667.

About This Service

Overview

Hazardous Area Classification (HAC) determines the type, extent, and frequency of explosive atmospheres in your facility. This classification drives the selection of electrical and mechanical equipment rated for use in hazardous zones, and it is a regulatory requirement for many industries in Singapore. DASH Consult applies IEC 60079-10-2 for dust atmospheres and IEC 60079-10-1 for gas and vapour atmospheres to produce classification drawings and documentation.

We assess release sources, ventilation conditions, and dust or gas properties to delineate Zone 20, 21, 22 (dust) or Zone 0, 1, 2 (gas) boundaries. The resulting hazardous area drawings become the master reference for facility design, equipment procurement, and ongoing maintenance.

A well-executed HAC study reduces capital expenditure by avoiding over-classification while ensuring safety in genuinely hazardous areas. We work closely with your engineering and maintenance teams to ensure the classification reflects actual operating conditions and is kept current through a management-of-change process.
